For a 10 day spring break in 2019, we took the kids to Italy. Our eldest was mid-way through his sophomore year in college and our daughter was still in high school. What a lucky choice we made to go because 11 months later, the world learned about Covid and we began our long, solitary quarantine. We spent 10 wonderful days in Italy — flying from the west coast of the US to Rome. We spent a few days in Rome, then took a train to Orvieto. We spent another few days in Orvieto then rented a car to go to Lucca. After Lucca, we day-tripped to the Cinque Terra (in actuality, we only made it to Tre Terra), then headed home via Milan’s massive Malpensa Airport. The kids were so happy to be there to see the country they heard us talk about so much and we were delighted to light the travel bug in them too!
